Having just removed and installed my convertible top tension straps and headliner i dont agree with this advice.
In the classic colour combination of estoril blue over light grey. 94 99 bmw e36 convertible hard top roof black m3 318 325 328 i ic oem. When lowered the top is stowed in a storage well behind the rear seat. Then remove the toneau cover linkage which is a black bar about 6 in long on a crank arm on the toneau motor above the arm with the cables.
